…And Justice For All is…alright. Nothing special. They were sorely missing the Burton influence and didn’t do a thing to expand the sound, which had been a feature of there previous stuff. Master is definitely the highpoint. It was downhill all the way from there – I say just buy some Overkill albums instead, you can’t really go wrong with that!

This is a good list of songs. I was expecting to see nothing but Coldplay and Westlife.

Future generations might look at this and note that the vast majority is the work of female artists, be impressed by the stylistic diversity on display, and that the songs detail obsession, sexual confusion, self doubt and loss. And lovely lovely lady lumps, of course.

And Justice For All is a great album, as well.

To be fair, with the exception of ‘Humps’, that is a pretty good list of actual ‘pop’ songs, whether you like the genre or not. Teenage girls don’t buy much Radiohead.

I’m not sure that’s really true any more, is it? Singles now represent marketing budgets and/or video rotation and/or TV tie-ins, not really the whole spectrum of musical taste across the country. Have you got one of these for albums? It may be the same depressing read, but I’d be interested.

Metallica are total and utter guff, by the way. They were shit in the nineties too.

They’re not even funny like most metal. I’d hoped that documentary they made about their counseling sessions had finally put them away and shattered any credibility they’d had… along with the Napster nonsense. But no…

I’d choose Toxic by Britney over any Metallica song ever on any jukebox anywhere ever, ever, amen.

To be honest, there’s nothing wrong with any of the stuff on that list. I wouldn’t listen to it, but I’d hate the world if the stuff I liked made it to number one, because my BRANE WUD MELTED.

I’d actually be quite interested in a list of actual sales+download figures for these, and then a comparison with say, the 90s and 80s, it would be an interesting portrait. I’m assuming that bands that are considered ‘major’ sell far less these days, but their media profile is far higher-do pGirls Aloud really sell more albums than, say, Metallica? Highly doubtful, but they are on TV a lot more aren’t they.
