Rap legends Public Enemy, have in an unusual move, sidestepped the current music industry problems and are financing their new album in a completely new way. They are using the site Sellaband to raise $250,000 by selling off the album and a chunk of the proceeds to those willing to put up $25 up front. Let Chuck D explain…

In the first of an occasional series – Singer-Songwriter, self proclaimed ‘next year’s Mercury Prize winner’ and friend of EWM Nick Tann is charting his progress in recording, pressing and releasing a vinyl album in an age of computer-wotsits and iTunepods.
I’m a sceptic about most things in the music industry. There’s a lot to be sceptical about as most of it is populated by people who know or care nothing about music.
They care about those pesky things like profits, demographics and shifting units, things that composers like me won’t dirty our precious little artistic hands with.
